2007 Appeal & Resources

The West Utkal Agricultural Centre at Diptipur is in a remote and especially disadvantaged area at the Western edge of India’s Orissa state. Some of the local problems continue unchanged year on year – the frequent failure of late summer rains jeopardises the vital rice paddy crop, for example. Other aspects of this project are new – a women’s empowerment programme and community health outreach.

Jeevan Jyoti, the other project OA is currently supported in India, is in some respects a complete contrast, set in a slum of Mumbai (Bombay). While a children’s pre-school is at the centre of Jeevan Jyoti’s work, women’s empowerment and community health again feature in the project’s broad-ranging programme, bringing hope to a further group of India’s many needy men, women and children.

OA launched a set of exciting materials at the Baptist Assembly in May. As in previous years, the colourful resource book is packed with information and ideas, and there are the usual leaflets, video programmes (on DVD or cassette), CD Rom, OHP acetates, etc.

When will your church or group look ‘Inside India’? Whilst the resources are suitable for your harvest weekend, they are equally useable at other times. Make plans now and ensure your group doesn’t miss out.

As always, whilst the appeal looks in depth at the work in one country, funds raised will be used for OA’s support of projects around the world.

• A pair of posters, colourful leaflets and gift envelopes
